大悲咒

13. 酰唎摩诃皤哆沙咩

xī lì mó hē pó duō shā miē。

觀世音菩薩現羊頭神王相

Quan Yin Pusa appearing as King of the goat with the head of a goat.

譯：「醯唎」為心，指心的無染者；

xī lì means heart, representing a heart which is not contaminated:

「摩訶皤哆沙咩」為大光明、長照明、空觀心。

hē pó duō shā miē means big brightness, penetrating light, emptiness viewing heart.

(空觀心是照見五蘊皆空，世出世間皆空，五蘊就是色受想行識。

Emptiness viewing heart is shining on the 5 aggregates with emptiness; emptiness in this world or out of this world, 5 aggregates means sex, love, thinking, action and knowledge.)

意為以大光明照心，得清靜心之法。

Meaning the big bright light shining on the heart, obtaining the pure and tranquil Dharma.

解說：此句是菩薩鑒於世人將名利、富貴看得太重，自尋苦惱，所以說此真言。

Comment: Buddha is saying that humans view fame and fortune with too much importance, as a result creating problems for themselves, this verse true meaning.

修道人首先要看淡一切，一心一意在悟道上下功夫；

Practitioner first of all must be indifferent to all matters, purely concentrating on the practice to achieve enlightenment.

因為俗心淡則道心濃，人心空則道心堅，

Bercause the common heart is indifferent to the Dharma, instead the heart must be empty but the determination to practice must be unyielding.

如能修到空心、空身，則必然生機蓬勃，離苦得樂。

If able to practice to the level of empty heart, empty self, will be reborn with vitality, leaving the suffering obtaining happiness.

但是空心、空身說來容易，做起來即很艱難，

But empty heart, empty self is a simple thing to say, but to cultivate is not so easy,

因為眾生在世，各有因果，

Due to the fact that all living beings have karma,

如何能滅卻俗世的煩惱，

How then is it possible to rid of this world’s problems,

應先從清淨自心上苦修，

Therefore must practice to have a pure and tranquil inner self,

只要我心清淨，則智慧必明，智慧一明，則外魔不侵，外魔不侵，自能捨卻塵緣、躡足虛空，到達無我無相的境界。

As long as the inner self is pure and tranquil, the wisdom will becomes clear, once wisdom is clear, external evil will not violate, when external evil does not violate, will be able to discard the dirt of this earth’s karma, threading on emptiness, arriving at the realm of no self, no form.

慈能与乐悲拔苦

Kindness makes others happy, compassion alleviates suffering.
普化群生成佛祖

By teaching multitudes of beings, we can become Buddhas and Patriarchs.
羊头神王护行人

This sheep-headed spirit king protects those who practice.
虎狼恶兽皆无阻

Keeping at bay tigers, wolves, and other beasts.
